October 24
Black Thursday

On Thursday, October 24, 1929, panic selling of stock began in earnest, culminating in the great stock market crash of October 29, 1929, and the start of the Depression. It was not, however, the entire cause of the Great Depression.

Saints celebrating feast days today include Saint Antony Claret, Saint Maglorius, and Saint Felix of Thibiuca.

Birthdays today include F. Murray Abraham (1940), Kevin Kline (1947), and David Nelson (1936). I can't figure out what David is up to now, but his daughter, Teri, is married to Chuck Woollery who is only about five years younger than her father and who had quadruple bypass surgery in 1996. Well, Mother always said "it's better to be an old man's sweetheart than a young man's slave." And Chuck is not a bad looking senior citizen.
